A little bit of Broadway made its way to Brisbane’s IPAC Theatre over the weekend, with the opening night of Broadway classic, ‘How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying’ presented by Savoyards Musical Comedy Society.
Originating from Shepherd Mead’s 1952 book of the same name, the Tony Award-winning musical was first performed in 1961 and tells of a highly ambitious youngster, J.Pierrepont Finch, who with the help of his trusty book with a long name, is determined to climb to the top of the corporate ladder at lightning speed.
The satirical takes on 1950s American corporate culture in all of its misogynistic glory can at first come across as confronting, but the humour in the script carries the story beautifully and one cannot help but be swept up in the story.
The Savoyards’ version of ‘How To Succeed..’ is produced by: Director Sherryl-Lee Secomb, Musical Director Geoffrey Secomb and Choreographer Desney Toia-Sinapati, whose interpretation of the classic would undoubtedly do the original production team proud, delivering plenty of pizzazz and Broadway theatrics.
Finch (played by Joel O’Brien) and Rosemary, Finch’s love interest, (played by Sarah Copley) are superb in their performances as the two main characters and really set the scene for the rest of the cast with their stand-out singing and acting ability.
A top quality and high-energy performance, the Savoyards’ ‘How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying' is a must-see, timeless classic for every audience.
'How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying' performs Iona Performing Arts Centre until 10 October.
