Hayes Theatre Co will bring an exciting line-up of productions for its 2026 season, celebrating the best of musical theatre and cabaret.
The year will feature a mix of classic and new Broadway smash hits, alongside daring new Australian works, continuing Hayes Theatre Co’s tradition of delivering intimate, powerful theatre punching above its size.
Things kick off with the world premiere of ‘Barbra: The Greatest Star’, a tour de force concert event honouring the legendary Barbra Streisand, directed by Brittanie Shipway. Then there’s the Sydney premiere of the joyfully queer, high-camp musical comedy ‘Head Over Heels’ from Ellen Simpson, followed by the Australian premiere of Broadway smash ‘Gutenberg! The Musical!’, directed by Richard Carroll and starring Stephen Anderson and Ryan Gonzalez.
‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’ kicks off in May, in a glittering new production directed by Rebecca McNamee. Then, come July, Julia Robertson returns to the Hayes to direct ‘The Addams Family’. . . And next up is the rollicking comic gem of satire and song ‘How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying’, featuring direction and choreography from Cameron Mitchell.
When October comes around, audiences can look forward to the Sydney premiere of the seriously silly, pop-rock thriller ‘We Are The Tigers’, directed and choreographed by Chiara Assetta. . . And 2026 comes to a close with another world premiere: ‘Silver Tongue’, a bold, musical reimagining of ‘Treasure Island’ created by breakout Australian talents Miranda Middleton, Jacob Parker, and Alec Steedman, under the direction of Richard Carroll.
Some regular Hayes events will make their return in 2026, including two new Neglected Musicals, ‘A Man Of No Importance In March’ and ‘The Rink’ in September. Also returning are ‘Musical Bang Bang’, ‘Home Grown’, ‘Theys At The Hayes’, the Festival Of New Work, the Winter Cabaret season, and ‘Carols By Cabaret’.
