Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Sydney’s Griffin Theatre Company is looking to the future with a new season of Australian stories hitting the stage in 2025.

Griffin’s first full year outside their beloved SBW Stables Theatre will present audiences with a collection of some of the best new Australian stories – including a work from the celebrated Alana Valentine, a heartfelt writing debut from Michelle Lim Davidson, a return season of Dylan Van Den Berg’s ‘Whitefella Yella Tree’, and a nudist comedy from Ang Collins to finish the year.

Alongside the main season will be Griffin’s artist development programme, Griffin Lookout. This will include ‘Sistren’ by lolanthe and ‘Birdsong Of Tomorrow’ by Nathan Harrison.

“Looking back at the last 45 years of Griffin, I find myself marvelling at how our stage has predicted the future, over and over again,” Griffin Artistic Director Declan Greene says. “Unlike television and film, theatre is unburdened by months and years of post-production. It can be nimble, responsive.”

Naturism 2025 1
'Naturism'

“2025 is a year which is all about playwrights as visionary artists, as agenda setters; playwrights who feel the pulse of our community who predict the next wave of social change before it even happens. The nuclear debate, climate change, generational conflict. But amongst all these big ideas, just like in life itself, it's also about tenderness, forgiveness and community.

“It’s going to be another big, ridiculous, beautiful year—and we can’t wait to embark on it with you.”

Kicking it all off is ‘Nucleus’, where Gabriel (a nuclear engineer) and Cassie’s (an anti-nuclear campaigner) lives collide and intertwine – leading to one explosive night where Cassie’s life work could be undone.

In ‘Koreaboo’, Hannah’s trip to Korea was all planned out – but when she arrives, the reality hits hard in a reunion story reaching across continents, cultures, and Spotify playlists.

Blackfella Yella Tree 2025 1
'Whitefella Yella Tree'

‘Naturism’ is set far from the trappings of civilisation, where a group of nudist boomers have created their very own off-grid bush eco-paradise. An all-nude, all-legendary task takes audiences on a hilarious journey of hope and delusion – in the face of disaster.

‘Whitefella Yella Tree’ is back to wow audiences – it’s a heartwarming, heartbreaking story about love, Country and Blak queerness through history.

As part of Griffin Lookout is ‘Sistren’ – following the lethal combination of Isla and Violet. When these self-proclaimed soulmates are separated, their cosmic connection is tested. . . And ‘Birdsong Of Tomorrow’, from Nathan Harrison who blends science, storytelling, music and video in a heartfelt look at our rapidly changing environment.

Griffin Theatre Company’s 2025 season kicks off with ‘Nucleus’ in February.
