Producers Shake & Stir Theatre Company and John Frost for Crossroads Live will bring an exciting group of award-winning actors to the stage for a gripping stage adaptation of Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’.
Following critically acclaimed performances, Darcy Brown (‘The Play That Goes Wrong’) will return as Doctor Victor Frankenstein, and Jeremiah Wray (‘Harry Potter And The Cursed Child’) as The Creature.
Stepping back on to the main stage for the first time since originating the role of Eliza in ‘Hamilton’ is Chloe Zuel, joining the company as Elizabeth.
Completing the cast is AFI Award-nominated Anna Lise Phillips (‘The Boys’, ‘Animal Kingdom’), Tony Cogin (‘Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap’) and Nick James (‘A Christmas Carol’).
‘Frankenstein’, from Mary Shelley, is considered by many as the very first science fiction novel. It’s captivated audiences for more than two centuries, and in this faithful yet contemporary large-scale stage adaptation, it combines cutting edge production elements with the power of virtuosic storytelling, offering up a night of thrilling theatre of monstrous proportions.
The production enjoyed a sold-out, inaugural season at Queensland Performing Arts Centre last year. In the retelling, audiences will bear witness as young scientist Victor Frankenstein pushes the boundaries of theory and morality, to create a living being from the remains of the dead.
Victor is shunned by society and plagued by an inherited sense of confusion and rage. His miracle of science becomes a monster, threatening to destroy everything his creator holds dear. . . But playing God has its consequences.
‘Frankenstein’ plays Princess Theatre (Melbourne) 23 August-1 September, and Theatre Royal (Sydney) 28 September-13 October.
