From Brisbane to Broadway and back again, Casus Circus toured the world with their debut show 'Knee Deep'. On Saturday night, they returned home bringing their world premier of 'Finding The Silence', a search for that elusive silence in this hectic world.
With high-octane acrobatics and restless exploration of physical ability, the Casus performers displayed intense focus, control and awareness. Using themselves, each other and physical objects, they pushed, pulled, held, climbed, and navigated the stage with such ease they were graceful, yet primal in their encounters.
In the search for a moment of pure clarity, Emma, Jesse, Lachlan and Vincent embraced the moment before a trick — releasing tension, preparing and breathing — and they executed it over an hour-long performance.
Dramatic bass music heightens the senses as you watch them defy danger, fear and gravity. Grasping what is normally a singular moment of solitude, they carried their concentration through the entire show. If they faltered, which wasn't often, they pushed on until the trick was executed perfectly.
I can only imagine the troupe tested their physical vulnerabilities, emotions and fears, pushing themselves to the limit to perform a unique and strictly refined creation; one that leaves you in awe of their mental and physical strength — and reminds mortals how physically wanting most of us actually are.
Casus Circus performs 'Finding The Silence' at the Judith Wright Centre, August 15-23.
