Created collaboratively by the artists of Outcast for the Brisbane Fringe Festival, ‘The Void And The Light’ is a hybrid work that combines voice with contemporary dance and theatre in a modern electronic soundscape.
What’s the elevator pitch for your show…
‘The Void And The Light’ has been described as an ‘organic forest of movement and music’ which I think sums up our work very well. The work is a fantastical hybrid theatre piece that uses voice, theatre and movement to tell a universal story we are sure audiences will relate to.

Fringe art means…
Pushing boundaries and making work that challenges traditional conventions. Fringe art is not safe or formulaic and fringe artists are incubators for new ideas that grow without the constraint of needing to meet box office quotas.
Brisbane’s artistic community is…
More vibrant and talented than it is given credit for. We have a strong community of people who are dedicated to making the scene viable. It is important we keep building our artist run initiatives because there is still a lot of room for the scene to improve and expand. It would be nice to see more permanent collectives and spaces made available to Brisbane artists.
You need to support local, fringe artists because...
We need to keep our artists here! Brisbane is a beautiful city but it can be difficult for artists, so they leave for the larger populations. If we want Brisbane to grow as a cultural hub it is essential we support our artists, particularly those that are self-funded like so many fringe artists are.
Any crazy/ weird stories behind-the-scenes stories during rehearsals?
We have 18 cast members for this work from 4 different disciplines — rehearsals are always crazy! However, there is nothing quite like having your entire cast try and do serious content when everyone is wearing onsies.
