Ensemble Theatre in Sydney will present a season featuring stellar cast names, brilliant playwrights and some returning Ensemble favourites in 2025.
The 2025 season consists of ten shows.
“In 2025, we’re thrilled to present ten exceptional plays,” Ensemble Artistic Director Mark Kilmurry says.
“We have three world premieres from Ensemble heavyweights: David Williamson couldn’t resist picking up his pen once again to give us ‘Aria’, Melanie Tait brings us ‘How to Plot A Hit In Two Days’, and comedy duo Genevieve Hegney and Catherine Moore return again with the true story of the world’s oldest commercial female pilot Deborah Lawrie in ‘Fly Girl’. I hope you’ll join us for an unforgettable season of theatre in 2025.”
Opening 2025 is ‘Aria’. It’s a world premiere from David Williamson, which takes place at Monique’s annual family gathering, celebrating her three beloved sons’ birthdays. While Monique’s adoration for her boys knows no bounds, disdain for their wives is palpable. Festivities crescendo, and Monique takes the spotlight with a performance of a renowned opera aria. It’s a poignant reminder of the dreams she sacrificed to raise her brood.
‘Aria’ is a darkly comedic exploration of the intricate dynamics – and rivalry – inherent within every family. It stars Tamara Lee Bailey, Rowan Davie, Danielle King, Tracy Mann, Sam O’Sullivan and Jack Starkey-Gill.
Closing off 2025 is ‘Dial M For Murder’, adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher, from the original by Frederick Knott. In it, ex-tennis pro Tony Wendice has his eye on his wife Margot’s enormous inheritance. He schemes to eliminate her from the equation. . . But must spin a web of lies to outsmart police.
‘Dial M For Murder’ features Amber McMahon and Garth Holcombe, and will leave audiences wondering ‘whodunnit’ until the very last moment.
Filling up the middle of 2025 are eight not-to-be-missed shows.
There’s Tennessee Williams’ ‘The Glass Menagerie’, a timeless portrait of a shattered family, inspired by his life; the Pulitzer Prize-winning offbeat ‘Primary Trust’ from Eboni Booth; ‘How To Plot A Hit In Two Days’ by Melanie Tait starring Georgie Parker; ‘True West’, an exploration of masculinity in America by Sam Shepard, and more.
