Do It For Science - Anywhere Theatre Festival Review

Do It For Science
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The Ragtag Band presented a delightful mix of science, comedy, music and (oddly enough) cabaret to the late-night fans of production.

Entering the theatre known as The Northshore Shed (FYI it was an actual shed if you didn’t already guess that), we were greeted by a number of musicians/ scientists with their lab equipment set up next to their mics and instruments.

The audience loved their songs that were scientifically or mathematically-based almost as much as the cabaret dancers that accompanied most songs (my favourite being about Pi, which averaged almost 3.1415926 notes per bar). The flexible duo was enticing to watch, and the juxtaposition with the science surrounding the burlesque was an intriguing mix. The dancer’s skin-peeling and pyrotechnics were a favourite along with the science experiments and facts we gained from attending (for example, too much oxygen WILL kill you).

As a sidenote, if you don’t know who Henrietta Lacks is, you should probably look her up right now.

'Do It For Science' ran from May 8 to May 17 at The Northshore Shed as part of  Anywhere Theatre Festival.
