While most people ducked for cover from the storms unleashed over Brisbane on Thursday night, entrepreneur Sharon Garrard was preparing to uncover and showcase creative talent at Brisbane’s second Creatives Uncovered event held in Fortitude Valley.

Battling all odds, this small group of talented creative industry leaders overcame flooding, hail and fowl weather to present what could only be described as a classy and professional showcase.

“It’s all about collaborations and connections between industry leaders and nurturing go getters” said Sharon, owner of Chic Petite Events. Yet this event was a whole lot more than your average exposé.

Those attending this free event were not disappointed as they were entertained with Fashion Shows and musical performances all from artists aspiring to stake their claim in the creative industry arena.

Designers Alex Wales and Nisha Abeyasekera of Liar And A Thief proudly posed for the camera with their catwalk models after sharing with the audience the inspirations behind their bikini design and their love of the environment with 10% of every bikini item sold being donated to help protect the turtles of Sri Lanka.

Aneta Rycombel from online fashion label Janin Australia also showcased her work via a superbly professional catwalk display.

For the majority of artists, this was the first time they had displayed their work and stalls were impressive. Alycia and Zhanne, both Photography students from TAFE, were confident as they awaited the arrival of guests.

“We just want to get our work out there and noticed,” said Alycia. Aspiring artist Shontelle Poutu shared her sentiment which echoed through the venue in a buzz of nervous excitement.

After this second highly successful event, Creatives Uncovered will return to Brisbane in 2015 as creatives line up to be part of this concept which provides a link-up platform for small business owners, entrepreneurs and sole traders to meet the creative industries that are vital in getting a business off the ground.
