CONS Project: Design Your Own Skate Deck

Sonny Day
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Converse are bringing their series of free community projects to the Gold Coast with a two-day workshop – 'Make Your Own Skateboard Graphic'.

Developed to inspire the next generation of creative spirits through skate, art, and music. The CONS Project hosts creative workshops which will provide participants with a hands-on learning experience. Kicking it off with the deck design workshop, all registered participants will receive a blank skate board which they can create their own custom illustration upon.

Graphic artist Sonny Day (one half of collaborative duo We Buy Your Kids) and renown muralist Gimiks Born will instruct them through the workshop, sharing their tips and tricks. While Andrew Brophy, Dean Palmer and Bryce Golder will help to guide the attendees through, teaching them how to select pantone shades, incorporate coloured veneers into a finished design, and in understanding how to best personalise concepts for pro-skaters.

The project will be lead by owner and creative director of Passport Skateboards, Trent Evans, who says he is "stoked to be leading the charge for the next CONS Project – 'Make Your Own Skateboard Graphic'... To me, a graphic on a board represents everything a company and individual stands for. I am really looking forward to breaking down all the different mediums and processes that can be used to create a graphic that is uniquely yours."

CONS Project: 'Make Your Own Skateboard Graphic' will be held in Miami, Gold Coast, 4-5 July. Registrations are open now.
