After a sold-out Fringe World 2018 run, The Motherhood have been performing ‘Surviving The Circus’ to sell-out crowds around Western Australia.
They have performed the show to over 2,000 people throughout the year and have a new show 'Jumumji' that will feature at the 2019 Fringe World season.
The ladies answer some questions about their group.
What’s The Motherhood Comedy all about?
We are a group of mums who are real. We all screw things up on a regular basis, no matter how hard we try. We share our stories of parenting failures and these remind our audiences to have a long, hard laugh at themselves.
Where did it all begin?
All of us are relatively new to comedy but have had great success, making it through to the Western Australian finals in the RAW Comedy Competition and winning the best newcomer award at Laugh Resort’s Dousties 2017. The first time we performed as The Motherhood was November 2017 in Kalamunda (in the Perth Hills) and we have done non-stop shows since then.
Who’s in the group and what does each member bring to the show?
Our group is made of four passionate women... Emma Krause (mum of twins), Simone Springer (Burlesque Babe), Lucy Ewing (the Silly Mum) and Jodie Lawrence as ‘Pony’ (the Fifo wife). We are not only stand-up comedians but also mums, small business owners, authors, teachers, wives, friends and daughters.
What can people expect from one of your shows?
‘Surviving the Circus’ and ‘Jumumji’ are shows that aren’t just for mums. It’s a good excuse to have a night out with friends or to go on a date night with your partner. They are relatable, honest, self-deprecating comedy event for anyone who has ever been in a relationship or looked after a child. Make sure you do your pelvic floors or you'll wet yourself laughing.
