Claire Denis Premieres Bastards

Bastards
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and some beyond.

With a distinctively French flair for filmmaking, Claire Denis will be premiering her new film fresh from the Cannes Film Festival at GOMA's Australian Cinémathéque.

The film she will be premiering is called Les Salauds (Bastards) and is charged with ideas of betrayal, secrecy, love, expressed through the story of a captain urgently called back to Paris after his sister's husband commits suicide.

The premiere screening is part of Australia's first extenstive retrospective of the filmmaker's work, which will include all 10 of her feature films, four documentaries and a number of shorts, commencing on Friday July 26 with her highly lauded debut Chocolat 1988, a semi-autobiographical meditation on colonialism in Africa.

The retrospective will run on Wednesday and Friday nights and Saturday afternoons from July 26 to August 30. The Audi GOMA Bar is open Friday nights from 5:30pm.
