Catherine Summers Brings A Slice Of Paris To Perth's Fringe World

Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Sure, we aren't allowed to get on a plane and head to Paris at the moment, but there are no rules that say you can't emulate the City Of Love in a sparkling, immersive cabaret show!

Ex-UK and proudly homegrown Perth vocalist Catherine Summers will present her audiences with a taste of delicious burlesque and a side of cheeky anecdotes and historical narrative, in 'Le Club Chic a Paris'. Catherine will be joined by her five-piece band to perform French classics in a two-part show.

“I’m excited about bringing this lively, fun, cheeky evening of all things Parisian cabaret and Fringe Festival to people,” Catherine says. “I want them to feel an immersion in all things French and perhaps reminisce and remember a time when they were perhaps back in France when the world wasn’t doing it quite so tough.”

The show is set to be a 'Moulin Rouge'-esque evening featuring the option of a pre-show dinner and riverfront views of the Swan River.

Catherine says she's beyond excited to share this collection of music with music-lovers.

“I love performing the French classics, Edith Piaf, Charles Trenet, Josephine Baker and I’m excited to be working with some of the best burlesque performers in Perth along with some of the best musicians.

“That said, I’m most of all looking forward to each and every audience – the energy, excitement, participation and warmth from people at my shows continues to blow me away – everyone is so wonderful and the atmosphere is electric. I’ve even encountered regular audiences becoming friends, purely from coming to my shows. It’s a fabulous and treasured thing!”

The Parisian celebrations aren't the only time you'll see Catherine around at Fringe World. She's performing a few other shows throughout, too, so there's plenty of opportunities to witness her musical mastery.

“My couple of other shows are 'All About Ella (The Ella Fitzgerald Story)' and 'Life Is A Cabaret' which is full of songs from the magic of musicals with a number of big show-stopping super emotive songs that I’m really looking forward to performing.

“It’s going to be a fantastic Fringe Festival and I’m so grateful for all the support Perthians are giving to local artists. . . It’s so encouraging and exciting for the arts in WA.”

'Le Club Chic a Paris' plays Riverside Room at Raffles Hotel 5-14 February.
