‘Every Brilliant Thing’ is a poignant yet buoyant interactive theatre experience, inviting Brisbane audiences to consider the small joys and everyday moments of beauty making life brilliant, this October.
Playing at Metro Arts, ‘Every Brilliant Thing’ is a new remount from Ipswich-based THAT Production Company of the acclaimed UK play. It traverses family, love, loss and hope, from the perspective of a child who compiles a list of worthwhile moments, to help their depressed mother.
“Audiences can expect storytelling at its most essential – this play offers an authentic, engaging and entertaining experience while discussing some of the more challenging yet totally universal elements of living,” THAT Production Company Artistic Director Timothy Wynn says.
The play is an intimate piece of storytelling; equal parts whimsical and moving nostalgic. It reinforces our shared similarities, worries and joys. The lead actor, Jason Klarwein, highlights the bond between the audiences and the performer. . . Something which makes every show different.
Jason has worked with the likes of Bell Shakespeare, Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir St Theatre, Malthouse Theatre, La Boîte Theatre, Black Swan State Theatre Company, Adelaide Festival Centre and Queensland Theatre. In 2017, he was nominated for a Helpmann Award for Best Actor In A Play, for ‘Once In A Royal David’s City’.
“Essentially, this is a play that really connects with the audience – there is no line here. It leaves audiences with a slight transformational quality and I think that is why it has been so popular around the world,” Jason says.
‘Every Brilliant Thing’ is an uplifting, touchingly funny interactive theatre experience, and a life-affirming celebration of courage in the face of anxiety.
‘Every Brilliant Thing’ plays Metro Arts (Brisbane) 4-21 October.
