A brand-new children's book from author Kerri Erler tracks the course of a brave cocker spaniel named Bozo, who fell overboard on a boat.

While on a day out fishing, Kerri's great-grandfather, fisherman Joe Wells and his dog Bozo were returning from outside The Rip in Queenscliff – one of the most treacherous bodies of water in the world – when Joe was distracted by a large ship approaching their boat.

Bozo fell overboard, but luckily he knew not to fight against the powerful tidal current. Instead he rode with it, until he came close enough to shore for him to turn and swim to dry land.

The story of Bozo the brave cocker spaniel garnered media attention, especially considered the loss of real human life in The Rip over the years. Bozo's bravery and ability to survive the conditions was praised all over the place.

So, Kerri's book 'Bozo The Brave' tells this story and brings it to life through lavish illustrations of fisherman Joe and his beloved pup, grandson Buzz, and the cast of dolphins, seals and seagulls who escorted Bozo on his epic journey.

“I am so excited to share this wonderful story with many more children,” author Kerri Erler says. “My book is aimed at children from three to eight years old, and is a timeless tale of the bond between a dog and his master and the dog’s determination, love and intelligence.”

Bozo still has legendary status in Queenscliff. . . And Joe's grandson Buzz still resides there, now retired from fishing, in his nineties.

“The story of Bozo has been a very precious family memory throughout the years, and a labour of love to write,” Kerri continues. “I am so pleased to have a new generation of children know about Bozo and his amazing swim.”

'Bozo The Brave' is a great bedtime (or any other time!) read, with big, beautiful imagery and Kerri's warm words sure to transport readers on the journey of a pup's lifetime.

“I am thrilled to have this story in print to cement Bozo's place in the hearts of the community and in the history of Queenscliff and in the stories of The Rip and Port Phillip.”
