Adelaide's signature LGBTIQ+ arts event Feast Festival has suspended its General Manager Cassandra Liebeknecht.
The ten-member board held a meeting last Friday, where they removed Cassandra from the role after allegations of unprofessional conduct.
The Australian reports that insiders have called this an "attack on her sexuality", and that board members did not want a straight woman in charge of a queer arts organisation. Cassandra has been a part of the Board of Management since 2014, so this was not her first Feast Festival on the team.
However there is division in the Feast community over the decision as four other directors are believed to have resigned in protest while on social media some people claiming to be associated with Feast are supporting the decision.
The Feast Festival Facebook Page is yet to comment about the issue.
The festival aims to celebrate pride and diversity, by providing a platform for the LGBTIQ+ community and its allies in the third largest event of its kind in Australia.
Last year, the event was headlined by Eurovision Song Contest winner Conchita Wurst, and this year is set to be opened by pop singer Dannii Minogue. In its 20th year, this is the first unfortunate bump in an otherwise relatively smooth road for Feast Festival.
Cassandra Liebeknecht was not available for comment at the time of writing.
