Big Glittery Sh.tshow: The Antithesis Of Modern Performance Art At Wonderland

'Big Glittery Sh.tshow'
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Jack Wilde, Shona Cona and Laney Mejias present 'Big Glittery Sh.tshow' as part of this year's Wonderland Festival in Brisbane.

Rowdiness is encouraged at 'BGSS', and everything ridiculous is simply considered sublime. It's a world where expectations are turned upside down. . . A titillating tidal wave for the senses featuring genuine talent and unbridled hilarity, with more glitter than you can shake a stick at. If you've got a pacemaker, it's probably wise to bring a few extra batteries. Things are going to get a little sexy.

“We keep getting asked if there’s a hidden meaning within the show, but honestly we just wanted to make something that’s shiny, fun, and gets your heart pumping,” Jack Wilde, one of the creators and performers, says.

“The performers in the show, Shona, Laney and I, have compiled our best (and worst) circus acts and comedy gags that we’ve collected over our circus careers, stuck a coat of confetti over them, and mushed it together to create this incoherent rollercoaster ride of emotions.

“If there is any kind of story to this show, it’s that Jack takes totally not a bunch of drugs (confetti) and the audience is dragged with him into a gigantic trip into an acrobatic, sequinned rave party filled with nudity, rubber dicks, and rubber ducks.”

Sounds pretty straightforward so far, right? Nothing totally out of the ordinary?

Jack tells us a little bit about what folks have walked away from 'BGSS' thinking and feeling.

“Most of the time when we talk to people after the show, they’ve said they couldn’t tell if they were amused, aroused, or disgusted,” he laughs.

“Audiences should expect a sexy cabaret and hilarious circus acts, and they’re either gonna love it or wonder why they just paid money to stare at some guy’s bedazzled butthole.

“We can’t wait to premiere this show at Wonderland, this giant, sequinned, heart-filled festival is the best place to perform Australia’s first ever dildo throwing act.”

'Big Glittery Sh.tshow' plays Brisbane Powerhouse 21-24 November.
