Trailblazing creative and Fringe World 2025 winner Mohammed 'Ayo Busari' brings new play 'Better Late, Than Never' to Fringe World in 2026.

Presented by blue joy theatre co., 'Better Late, Than Never' follows young musician Jack and his two best friends Stella and Ali, journeying through high school memories, tender 'almosts', and meaningful inside jokes.

blue joy theatre co. is a bold new voice in Perth's vibrant arts scene. The company is passionate about developing and staging diverse stories, bold ideas, and dynamic performances, reflecting our world as well as imagining worlds we wish to build.

"It’s exciting to be a part of 'Better Late, Than Never' because, as a director, I find it exciting to work with in-betweens. There’s a lot of tasty conflict to be played with and teased out,” Director Harper Nguyen says.

When Stella and Ali become the last people Jack can remember. . . Will their unwavering support falter?

It's an exploration of the power of friendship, the importance of finding your people, and grieving lost memories.

"The concept of Fringe was to showcase talent that usually wouldn’t get a stage, and to tell stories that wouldn’t otherwise be told,” Harper continues. “Being a cast and crew full of emerging talent, telling a story that hasn’t been told yet excites me, and I hope that excitement is felt by the audience.”

'Better Late, Than Never' was originally developed as part of WAYTCo's 24 Hour Generator (2024) and later through blue joy's inaugural New Beginnings (2024/25) programme. It asks not what we hold on to, but what we remember, from time to time.

'Better Late, Than Never' plays Subiaco Arts Centre (Fringe World) 29-31 January.
