Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Weimar punk kabarett artist Bernie Dieter is bringing her debaucherous, exuberant ‘Club Kabarett’ to Melbourne.

The show, which recently enjoyed an extended season as part of Perth’s Fringe World (our review here) will take over Meat Market in North Melbourne from April to May. The show is inspired by the historic 1920s pre-war burgeoning Berlin cabaret scene – it’s a wild, gender-bending place of sexual freedom and celebration of difference, at a time of social and political turmoil.

‘Club Kabarett’ promises Melburnians a joyous roller-coaster ride of creativity. Punks, freaks, and weirdos WELCOME!

‘Club Kabarett’ stars, of course, Bernie Dieter, alongside a band of legendary misfits and mischief-makers. All walks of life will be invited to the Meat Market – a historic Melbourne venue which will be brimming with dangerously funny cabaret, breathtaking circus tricks, gender-bending aerial and a fire-breathing sideshow. . . All set to the soundtrack of Bernie’s vocals and a gin-soaked band.

Bernie has astounded audiences here, there and everywhere. She’s earned herself rave reviews in her fusion of leather, sequins, satire and wit at London’s West End, Japan, Fringe World in Perth and Auckland Festival. Now, it’s Melbourne’s turn to witness this cabaret icon and her assortment of bombastic buddies.

Tickets are on sale now.

‘Bernie Dieter’s Club Kabarett’ plays Meat Market (North Melbourne) 3 April-11 May.
