Wonderland is no place for children at Fringe World.
The Bells of Scarlet Bell Burlesque have taken a trip down the rabbit hole only to discover that they're all characters in Wonderland... A Wonderland they never knew existed.
It's a sexy new take on what we thought we knew, starring Foxxxy Curves as the Cheshire Cat... It's 'Bells In Wonderland'.
Here, Foxxxy pens an open letter to anyone who has ever crushed on a cartoon character.
“When I was younger, I was always jealous of the characters on TV. They had perfect lives, money, clothing. And, well into my teens, the obsession with fantasy characters continued. It never really waned – which is why 'Aquaman' is one of the highest-grossing movies made, because let’s face it, the storyline isn’t that great, but phwoar, Jason Momoa!
Playing Never Have I Ever in my early 20s I realised just how common this was, as my friend stated, “Never have I ever had a sexual fantasy about a cartoon character”... And EVERYONE DRANK THEIR DRINK. I thought I was alone; alas, no, we’re all sick and twisted people on this earth.
It wasn’t just sexual fantasies though (sorry Aladdin). It was fantasies about having their lives, their powers, their friends. I always wanted to be the Pink Ranger, Kimberley. She was sassy, funny, adorable, and totally kicked some putty ass when needed. I wanted to be her. Not be like her, but be her. But this wasn’t restricted to real-life characters.
In cartoons it was 'Alice In Wonderland' that captivated my attention. Two characters – the Queen of Hearts, and the Cheshire Cat. The Queen was a headstrong, focused woman who let no one get in her way of ruling a kingdom. The Cheshire Cat, on the other hand, was a purveyor of mischief, spoke in riddles and words that I considered wise and true, and could disappear, leaving nothing but a smile. What power, what grace, what colours, oh my God, the pink and purple fur was divine.
I’m now 34; and my infatuation with certain characters has gone beyond the character into the actor (I’m talking about you, Amy Jo Johnson), but Cheshire will always remain a fantasy.
Until now. When my partner Elle Entice started writing our upcoming Fringe show, she said it was Wonderland-themed. Then, being the Artistic Director, I was allowed to choose my character – and could not pass up the chance to MC a show as none other than the mischievous feline themselves; the Cheshire Cat.
I can’t wait to see what some of the troupe members bring to the show as we all completely mess up any childhood fantasies of innocence that people have about the Wonderland characters. We’ve left Alice out of this one – some beings are just too pure to be tainted.
If you’ve ever had a crush on a fantasy character, or just want to see a bunch of gorgeous people mess up childhood memories, catch 'Bells In Wonderland' – it’s a world premiere, and if you miss it… well, that’s on you.”
