Australian theatre fans have chanted ‘Beetlejuice’ three times. . . And the most mischievous ghost in the history of musicals has re-appeared.
After a hugely successful run in Melbourne earlier in 2025, the eight-time Tony Award-nominated musical will return down under, hitting Brisbane’s Queensland Performing Arts Centre from June 2026.
‘Beetlejuice’ tells the story of strange, unusual teenager Lydia Deetz, obsessed with the whole “being dead thing”. Her house is haunted by a recently deceased couple, and a degenerate demon, with a thing for stripes.
Lydia calls on this ghost-with-the-most to scary away her insufferable parents, and Beetlejuice comes up with the perfect plan.
The Brisbane season will be led by Broadway star Andy Karl, best known for his work in ‘Groundhog Day’, ‘Rocky The Musical’, ‘Pretty Woman The Musical’, ‘Legally Blonde The Musical’ and ‘Moulin Rouge!’.
“I’m dead excited to drag my striped suit all the way Down Under!” Karl says. “Taking over the role from my friend Eddie Perfect has both the excitement and terror of riding a sand worm into the Netherworld. The best part? I get to haunt the stage every night with my gorgeous fiancée Elise. Brisbane, lock your doors. . . Beetlejuice is moving in!”
Meanwhile, Karis Oka, Elise McCann, Rob Johnson, Erin Clare and Tom Wren will reprise their roles from the Melbourne season as Lydia, Barbara, Adam, Delia and Charles.
Plus, Brisbane local Angelique Cassimatis will return as the beloved Miss Argentina, alongside Andy Conaghan as Otho, Adam Lyon as Maxie Dean, Noni McCallum as Maxine/Juno, and Rebecca Ordiz as Girl Scout.
“I am ecstatic to announce we will be bringing ‘Beetlejuice The Musical’ to Brisbane in 2026. I know that Queensland audiences are going to love this show which is full of humour, heart, and world-class performances,” Producer Michael Cassel says. “We have assembled some of Australia’s most extraordinary talent for the production, including the incredible Andy Karl as Beetlejuice.”
The show is directed by two-time Tony Award-winner Alex Timbers, with an original score by Tony Award-nominee Eddie Perfect, and a book by Scott Brown and Anthony King.
