Basement Baroque

In true Anywhere Festival fashion, 'Basement Baroque' presents a unique way to experience classical music – set in the shadows of Yeronga's old Paint Factory.

It's a daring, immersive programme produced by Evalyn Legried, fitting snugly among the many interesting and exciting productions playing as part of Anywhere Festival in Brisbane – an event encouraging the presentation of theatre and music in spaces anywhere BUT a theatre.

'Basement Baroque' reimagines the grandeur of Baroque-era music within an intimate, unconventional performance space. The raw, brutalistic spaces inside The Paint Factory act as natural amplifiers, drawing unexpected parallels with the cathedrals and chambers for which this music was originally conceived.

Audiences are invited to step into something unfamiliar to truly experience the raw mechanics of the music: breath, bow, tension, release. The result? Immediate. Electric. Unapologetically human.

There'll be historical repertoire blended with a fresh, contemporary sensibility, equally suitable for those deeply familiar with the art-form and those just keen to experience something brand-new.

Anywhere Festival, known for transforming unexpected spaces into performance venues, is perfect for 'Basement Baroque': promising an unforgettable afternoon of music, atmosphere, and connection.

'Basement Baroque' plays The Paint Factory (Yeronga) as part of Anywhere Festival on 23-24 May.
