Tamara McLaughlin is part of the production 'One Black Mark', one of the dozens of independent theatre shows being staged as part of Anywhere Theatre Festival.

What is your role and how did you come to be involved? I play the role of Rivka Klein, international pop star! Think all the sex, drugs and rock n roll of Ke$ha, mixed with the misunderstood and misguided nature of Britney (during that infamous head shaving stage).
Is there improv and is this nervewracking? Any actor who hates improv is like a barista who hates coffee! Improv is an actor’s opportunity to think on their feet and make choices for the character based on instinct. It’s also a tremendous tool to use in everyday life. Here’s a handy hint — telemarketers can’t hang up on you so practis e on them. The world is your oyster. I love it!
What reactions are you expecting from the audience? That’s the most exciting part! I have no idea! There are so many fantastic elements to this show. From cross-dressing to puppetry, there is something for everyone.
What have you learnt about human nature and judgement from being part of this production? We all do it! Some more so than others sure, but end of the day we really don’t have any idea what anyone is going through. I’m about to sound like a crazy hippy, but if we just accepted that we can’t always relate and just gave our support to people, humankind would be a lot better for it.
