The mundane, everyday venues, parks, and even backyards everyone is familiar with will be shaken up with a bit of flavour this May as they become hosts for South-East Queensland's annual Anywhere Festival.
To make its return to provide theatre, drama, comedy, circus, music and anything in between for the locals, the Anywhere Festival will be held almost anywhere (except a theatre).
If you haven't heard of Anywhere Festival, it allows support for the emerging arts and performers from the South-East region in Queensland. The festival provides accessible theatre and performance, cooperatively working with local businesses and supporters of the creative arts.
Mixing it up from traditional performing arts protocol, Founder and Artistic Director of Anywhere Festival, Paul Osuch, says the show provides a new way to immerse audiences in performing arts.
“With Anywhere Festival you can experience an everyday or an extraordinary place in a completely new way whilst seeing the best of independent performance.
“It’s a night out with a 'difference' not just seeing a ‘show at the theatre’.”
Since its first year in 2011, the festival has wowed a range of audiences around Brisbane. Now in its third year in Noosa and on the Sunshine Coast, Mayor of the Sunshine Coast Council, Councillor Mark Jamieson sees the clear benefits of the festival.
“The festival provides a platform that brings together local business, performers, residents and visitors alike to visit spaces on the Sunshine Coast in a new and enlightening way.”
Noosa Mayor, Councillor Tony Wellington, also jumping on board with the Anywhere Festival Movement.
“This festival not only dissolves the proverbial 'fourth wall' between the audience and performers, it also does away with the other three walls of conventional theatre.”
This year there's a bumper 96 shows across all regions, proving that there's truly something for everyone.
