Anywhere Festival, the festival that happens anywhere BUT a theatre, is looking for homes and businesses in Brisbane, who want to make their part of the world. . . A stage!
The festival, founded in 2011 by Artistic Director Paul Osuch, is on again this July-August. It reimagines traditional theatre – usually found on lavish, grand stages in huge buildings – by bringing it to backyards, parking lots, warehouses, cafes and more. This initiative makes art accessible to all!
“We believe that theatre can happen anywhere,” Osuch says. “By inviting the community to offer their spaces, we’re breaking down barriers between performers and audiences, creating intimate and memorable experiences.”
Anywhere Festival has a rich history of presenting theatre where theatre isn’t usually seen. It’s an opportunity to showcase Brisbane’s eclectic architecture, but also form a deeper connection between artists and the community.
“Hosting a performance is a fantastic way to support local artists and bring culture directly into your neighbourhood,” Osuch adds. “It’s about making art a part of everyday life.”
Such places Anywhere could be held include apartments, lounge rooms, libraries, a strip club, a dressing room, an office, a kitchen, an op shop, a school hall, a jetty, a gallery, a yoga studio, a boxing ring. . . The possibilities are practically endless.
Registration is now open for Anywhere Festival Brisbane locations.
Anywhere Festival Brisbane is on from 18 July-3 August.
