After ten years of writing, performing, and touring internationally, Anya Anastasia is quitting cabaret.
In a show filled with performance art, opera, and comedy, Anya highlights her bizarre and riotous CV while publicly seeking new employment.
Anya's internationally-acclaimed talents will be on display throughout the show. She's traversed the globe appearing in festivals in Europe, the UK, New Zealand, and of course down under, with a vocal range going from husky jazz to operatic soprano.
'Cabaret Star For Hire' comes after the cabaret queen began to grow tired of the razzle-dazzle showbiz lifestyle. She's crafted a showcase of failures and happily owns up to all her wrongdoings.
So what exactly can audiences expect to see throughout the performance?
“An uproarious, riotous night of original music, comedy, and hysterical musings of an intelligent but unhinged cabaret diva,” Anya says. “A dose of virtuosic ukulele and upside down acrobatic piano playing in your week!

“And a hilarious narrative thread that blends spy thriller drama with an outrageous comedy of errors. . . And of course some tender moments delivered in a way that really makes that genre of cabaret so powerful. Confessions and intimate storytelling, where people see behind the mask of the performer, up close and personal."
In terms of the music, the show promises an original feminist take on a Bond theme, a song for her proposed new Disney movie 'Existential Crisis The Musical', and a heartfelt ballad: 'Never Give Up On Your Dreams And Other Terrible Pieces Of Advice'.
Anya says quitting cabaret was the catalyst for writing 'Cabaret Star For Hire'.
“The only way I know how to process my emotions is by writing a cabaret show about it. . . So I did,” Anya summarises. “One last show I said. . . And that very show has been a phenomenal success, taking me all the way to New York Off Broadway via Brisbane Powerhouse, and then back for Woodford Folk Festival. And I'm still pinching myself!”
“I can't wait for my Queensland debut of this show at Wonderland Festival.”
