All Fired Up – 5 Things You Had To Have To Be A Real Child Of The '80s

'All Fired Up'
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Ever wish you could go back in time?

In 'All Fired Up', playing in Queensland, Tammy Tooth is on the brink of a most epic existential crisis, and it's a trip back in time that will help her get back on her feet. Tammy's 15-year-old self is there to answer all of present-day Tammy's questions.

It's time to dig out your 'Choose Life' shirt and double cassette player, ready to blast the soundtrack of the '80s in 'All Fired Up'.

Here, 'All Fired Up' Writers and Performers Rachel Terry and Roz Pappalardo list five things you had to have to be a real child of the '80s, before the show plays Brisbane Festival and then heads to Redland Performing Arts Centre.

One

You had a life-sized poster of Michael J Fox on your bedroom wall, along with a Rob Lowe and Molly Ringwald not-so-life-sized poster.

Two

You knew every word to 'Xanadu' (songs and dialogue and you could flick fluently between American and Australian accents) and 'Back To The Future' was your very favourite movie and in fact the soundtrack was your first vinyl.

Three

You had a ra-ra skirt, a 'Choose Life' t-shirt, and an over-teased fringe, plenty of blue eyeshadow.

Four

You knew all the signifying Cyndi Lauper dance moves to 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun'.

Five

You had a never-completed Rubik's Cube on your bookcase, white boot roller-skates by your bedroom door, and a Cabbage Patch Kid well hidden in the back of your cupboard.

'All Fired Up' plays South Bank Piazza as part of Brisbane Festival on 11 September, and Redland Performing Arts Centre 23 September.
