Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival 2024 Programme

Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The 2023 season was a big one, enjoying sold-out shows, and now Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival is returning, back to warm audiences up for the winter festival season.

The festival features more than 100 performances across 10 nights, in shows for audiences of all ages. There are free pop-up street shows, open mic nights, and more.

Highlights of the programme include ‘Cowardy Cowardy Custard’, two hilarious one-act plays by Noel Coward at Holden St Theatres starring Martha Lott and Geoff Revel, directed by Peter Goers; Frankly returns with her brand-new cabaret ‘experiment’ ‘Frankly: Fully Spread’; all-female acts from Virago Circus will soar in ‘Club Flight’; 2024 weekly cabaret winner ‘Burlesque Blues’ will dazzle audiences.

Plus, audiences can enjoy plenty, of course, in the realm of cabaret in crisp characters, delicate notes, rich textures and full-bodied goodness in ‘Cabaret Uncorked’, or burlesque in ‘High Tea, High Tease’. Speaking of burlesque, fans will be thrilled with the line-up at Nineteen Ten, including ‘Inferno’, ‘Pop Culture Cabaret’, ‘Cinematic Sinners presents Burlesque The Movie’ and more.

Arthur’s Art Bar will be home to 2024’s CabLive – the piano bar/artist and audience playground hosted by vocal impressionist Leather Lungs.

“I am beyond excited to come back to my second home Adelaide for CabFringe,” Leather Lungs (Jay Chaslad) says. “The programme has such a wonderful and diverse range of artists’ skills and shows and is set to be a festival of magic, mayhem and madness! I can't wait to add to the mayhem and bring some creative comedy and cheek hosting CabLive every night!”

The Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival Chair Mark de Raad is thrilled at the 2024 offering.

“The 2024 Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival covers a variety of international, award-winning and local cabaret talent with 40+ independently-produced cabaret shows at a record number of registered venues on Kaurna Land and for the first time: regional areas,” Mark says.

Plus, after four years at the helm, Lauren Thiel will pass the baton to local Creative Producer, Arts Educator and Storyteller Simone DiSisto.

“Cabarets have always been places where performers, poets, storytellers, musicians and artists of all genres can find each other, where innovative ideas are incubated and live performance venues come alive with audiences, sustaining and celebrating the arts,” Simone says.

“This year’s programme demonstrates the diversity of what Cabaret can be beyond stereotypes of sequins and show tunes, as well as showcasing and empowering artists and venues to create cabaret that represents them, their art forms and authentic voices.”

Tickets are on sale now.

Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival is on from 24 May-2 June.
