Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Adelaide Cabaret Festival is celebrating 20 years under the stage lights in 2020, and have allowed a sneak peak into their jam-packed programme.

In full festival fashion, the Cabaret Festival will be putting on 'The 20th Anniversary Variety Gala!' to celebrate their 20th birthday.

Go full-glam for the illustrious opening night event, as Artistic Director Julia Zemiro and previous Artistic Director David Campbell host a full-on evening of cabaret vivaciousness! There will be familiar faces from past performances, as well as fresh faces performing their best.

Next year's festival will also be an homage to all things French and chic. The Adelaide Cabaret Festival presents 'A French Soiree'. The event will take place in the middle weekend of the festival, and will focus on celebrating France as the motherland of cabaret.

The headlining act for that same weekend will feature an Australian premiere, with a star-studded amalgamation of top tier performers from Broadway, the West End, and Australia, all gathering to celebrate the music of legendary musical theatre composers, Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg in 'Do You Hear The People Sing?'

The exclusive concert will include hits from 'Les Miserables', 'Miss Saigon', 'Martin Guerre',' The Pirate Queen', and France's first rock opera 'La Revolution Francaise'. 'Do You Hear The People Sing?' will star internationally renowned tenor, Alfie Boe, and award-winning musical theatre star, Lea Salonga – known for her performances as Princess Jasmine and Mulan in timeless Disney classics 'Aladdin' and 'Mulan'.

'RocKwiz' returns in 2020 for 'RocKwiz Salutes New York'. Join in the madness as fabulous cabaret and rock musicians bring the house down with some of New York and Broadway's finest tunes. Not to mention, the big quiz, itself!

In a world premiere and Adelaide exclusive, US musicians Davina and the Vagabonds will bring New Orleans charm to the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. Drawing parallels to Amy Winehouse and Janis Joplin, Davina and her soulful musical stylings will whisk you away.

To top it all off, the critically-acclaimed West End hit 'SIX The Musical' will smash open the doors at the new Her Majesty’s Theatre as part of Adelaide Cabaret Festival’s 20th programme. Devilishly witty and dripping in sass, 'SIX' tells the story of the six wives of Henry VIII – revel as the six wives all take their turn in telling their stories through meticulously-crafted pop songs.

“It’s been a delicious labour of love looking back at all the artists who have been part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival story,”Adelaide Cabaret Festival Artistic Director Julia Zemiro says.

“The best of Australian and international cabaret have cooed, wowed, jazzed and stomped the stages of the Adelaide Festival Centre and there are so many stories to tell.

“2020 will be a year of celebration of the past, the present and also turn the page on the next chapter.”

Adelaide Cabaret Festival runs from 5-20 June. Watch this space for the Adelaide Cabaret Festival’s full programme launch in March.
