Soprano and award-winning cabaret star Ali McGregor will be joined by comedian and TV presenter Adam Hills, in hosting this year’s Opera Australia New Year’s Eve Opera Gala in the Concert Hall of Sydney Opera House.
The gala will be a wild journey through the world of opera, with a distinctly Australian flavour. It will be held right in the heart of Sydney’s world famous New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Ali McGregor is a singer and producer, who started her career as a principal soprano with Opera Australia. She’s now an award-winning cabaret performer who has appeared everywhere from Glastonbury to Carnegie Hall.
Five-time Gold Logie nominee Adam Hills is known for his iconic role as the host of ‘Spicks And Specks’, as well as ‘Adam Hills Tonight’ and ‘The Last Leg’, his talk show on the UK’s Channel 4.
The cast for this year’s gala will include tenor Diego Torre, stunning sopranos Julie-Lea Goodwin and Sophie Salvesani and baritone Luke Gabbedy, joined onstage by the Opera Australia Orchestra and conducted by Opera Australia’s Head of Music Tahu Matheson.
The gala will mark the first time Ali and Adam have ever hosted together. It promises a night of beloved opera classics, sung by some of Opera Australia’s favourite principal artists.
A ticket to the New Year’s Eve Opera Gala will also allow audience members to see Sydney’s world famous 9pm fireworks during the show’s interval.
Tickets are on sale now.
