A Street Ballet With Shopping Trolleys

Art and About: Trolleys
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

'Trolleys' is a high-energy, part dance, part spectacle, part ballet of performers moving to classical music with five – you guessed it – shopping trolleys.

First presented in London where it won the 2012 Argus Angel Award for the Brighton Festival and Fringe, it has since performed in Scotland, France, Holland, Germany and Malaysia. Performed by the award-winning Sydney based dance company C-12 Dance Theatre, 'Trolleys' will perform as apart of Sydney's Art & About.

Shaun Parker, the choreographer of 'Trolleys' says that the performance is very physically demanding. "'Trolleys' is very athletic, merging contemporary, acrobatic and street dance with the extraordinary world of trolleys. Soaring patterns of the music visually match the movements of the trolleys. It is very emotive and quite beautiful.

“Using an everyday mundane object that takes on human qualities, we tell a story through dance that draws you in. Five shopping trolleys randomly appear in a public space. Two fall in love. One grapples to find a friend. And three ignite in a dance of anarchy.”

Trolleys performs as apart of Art & About Sydney.
