5 Unfortunate Occurrences During A Show With The Forwards

The Forwards
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

In the small town of Pintoon everyone loves the footy.

The local team, the Pintoon Parrots, have finally made it to the grand final due to the talent of their three star goal kickers, Rabbit, Hoges and Tractor. Before the big game, the entire town is partying hard and the ‘dream team’ are challenged by the vicious cocktail of grog mixed with jealousy as mateship gives way to anger and violence.

The Forwards1'The Forwards' looks at the pressures on young people to balance their sporting skills, hopes and dreams, with a culture of binge drinking, racing cars and small town rivalries.

Local theatre-makers Sam Foster and Hayden Jones, who brought us the edgy, sold-out season of 'The Pillowman' last year, have teamed up with writer and director Stefo Nantsou from Zeal Theatre to bring you 'The Forwards'.

Compiling a list of 5 unfortunate things that have happened while on stage, Sam Foster – who plays Hodges – is still positive above all else. “These events are all unfortunately true, however they do make for good stories! There is always a silver lining.”

The Forwards21. Co-actor walking off stage due to heat exhaustion, leaving you to improvise the last scene of the show on your own in front of an audience of 500 Indian school students.

2. Losing power to the stage and continuing to do the show by lighting each other on stage with torches, only to find out at the end of the show that normally you just stop the show and wait for the backup generator to kick in... the show must go on!

3. A drunken marriage proposal by someone in the crowd who decided this would be a great opportunity to announce his love to his future bride.

4. Announcing to a crowd of 8,000, to find out afterwards the microphone had been off the entire time.

5. Seat braking under you during the final, most dramatic scene of the show.

'The Forwards' plays Arts Centre Gold Coast, 9-18 July.
