Melissa Main isn't interested in presenting the same show in the same place every night.
The award-winning songwriter and performer will go Anywhere to create meaningful music with various different collaborators, in shows filled with poignant and wicked tales of the human experience.
Here, Melissa lists five kinds of suitcase collaborators ahead of her Anywhere Festival performances.
The Lurker
You watch what we do online from the comfort of your own toilet seat. You never engage, but dream of joining the Suitcase Revolution one day. We love you.
The Vicarious Collaborator
You 'like' everything we do on social media, you share or comment occasionally but for limitations of time, resources or health find attending shows impossible. On those days we feel like we make art in a vacuum, those 'likes' mean a great deal. We love you.
The Real-Life Audient
You attend our shows. You witness our work. You clap, laugh and cry with us. You bring your friends. You might even pay for a ticket unless you know how to climb in the venue toilet window. We kind of love you more, but we most definitely don’t have favourites.
The My-Life-Is-A-Cabaret Character
You tell us your story. We agree your life is a cabaret. We write you a song. Some people would call this life-plagiarism. We call it inspiration. Thank you.
The I-Am-A-Cabaret Collaborator
You agree to work with me to create, rehearse and perform a cabaret show that lies at the point of where our lives collide. Let’s make art. Go!
'Melissa Main's Suitcase Cabaret Collection' plays Kurilpa Hall on 11, 19 and 25 May and Daily Planet Cafe on 12 and 13 May.
