'May The Be With You': Stephen Schwartz, open mic and Spaceballs puns. What more could you want? Froghurt maybe?
Broadway Sessions is a monthly open mic night with a twist; artists perform tracks on a particular theme from within the musical theatre songbook and are backed by a full band. Led by Musical Director Peter Johns, he conducts his 5 favourite tunes (in no particular order) from the composer at the heart of this month’s theme: Stephen Schwartz.
Corner Of The Sky
This is sung by the title character in 'Pippin'. It has been sung by many singers over the years, including Diana Ross.
In Whatever Time We Have
Halfway through act two of 'Children Of Eden', Japeth and Yonah sing this stunning duet.
Out There
The soundtrack to Disney’s 'Hunchback Of Notre Dame' features Bette Midler, George from Seinfeld and this track by Tony Jay and Tom Hulce.
Beautiful City
This song was written for the 1972 movie version of 'Godspell' and has made its way into later revival versions of the stage show. It was re-written in 1993 after the Rodney King riots in LA.
For Good
A duet between Elphaba and Glinda from 'Wicked', this song was made famous by Kristin Chenoweth and has since been sung by Delta Goodrem and Anna Kendrick, among others.
'Broadway Session: May the Schwartz Be With You' takes place at Nexus Arts 27 March.
