5 Reasons Why Fantastic Mr Fox Is A Great Story For All Ages With shake & stir's Leon Cain

'Fantastic Mr Fox'
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Roald Dahl's much-loved 'Fantastic Mr Fox' will leap off the page and on to the stage thanks to shake & stir Theatre Company.

Mr Fox needs to save his family and friends, and he'll do anything to outwit farmers Boggis, Bunce and Bean (one fat, one short, one lean!) so they can all make it to safety. shake & stir's adaptation of the story is filled with Dahlicious mischief, mayhem and belly laughs.

Following its sold-out 2019 run, the show will return to Brisbane before heading to Perth for a special season.

Here, Leon Cain (who plays Boggis) gives us five reasons why the story has appeal no matter how old you are.

One

Because Mr Fox is a very cool, clever and appealing character. It’s easy to be charmed by him and follow his journey.

Two

The story is actually a bit more complicated in terms of moral decision-making than other kids tales. Mr Fox is technically 'stealing', which probably isn’t such a good thing to do. However he’s only doing it to feed his family, so that’s fair enough. And anyhoo, those farmers are mean and greedy. And trying to destroy his home and family. But morally it can still be a bit of a rollercoaster.

Three

Seeing animals outsmart silly, mean humans is always enjoyable.

Four

Anthropomorphism is always a fun concept to play with.

Five

The character and actor who plays farmer Boggis is frightfully attractive. And whoever plays Mole definitely has the X-factor, maybe even a couple of ex-factors.

'Fantastic Mr Fox' plays Queensland Performing Arts Centre from 9-18 January and State Theatre Centre of WA from 22-26 January.
