A very modern romance – La Boite’s 21st century take on William Shakespeare’s 'Romeo & Juliet' promises to pack a punch.
Jack Bannister and Darcy Gooda star in the title roles alongside a stellar cast including Eugene Gilfedder, Bridget Boyle, Kerith Atkinson and Colin Smith. Nicole Hoskins (growl – in the tiger mask) brings Romeo’s cousin Benvolio to life – and from a female perspective.
We asked her to unpack her top five iconic moments from the play – your sneak-peek into this must-see production.
The first brawl
Okay, a fight starts off the play. It’s brutal, in your face, and without a doubt… Iconic!
Get your groove on
Everyone loves a good boogie – and the cast dance it up at the party scene – where Romeo first meets Juliet. It’s a great moment in the play for us to just dance it alllll out.
The balcony scene
“But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?”... Well, of course! One of the most famous scenes in Shakespeare history – on stage this scene is absolutely beyond beautiful, and so are of course, Romeo and Juliet. I don’t want to spoil anything – but you gotta see this.

Sword fighting
We worked with amazing fight choreographer Nigel Poulton on all fight sequences. And – we use REAL SWORDS. The lights, the music – all together it's just awesome! You'll wish you were up there fighting alongside Mercutio (except without, uh, the tragic death).
The FINAL death scene
“Thus with a kiss, I die”... OOP! Spoiler? The final moment between the two lovers is tragically beautiful, romantic, yet heart-breaking at the same time.
'Romeo & Juliet' is playing La Boite Theatre until 15 June.
