A mythical fable and a contemporary, intimate story of love and redemption – Jewish/Australian artist Ari Jacob presents 'Son Called Moon' at Melbourne's Chapel Off Chapel this month.
The music for the production is drawn from Ari Jacob's indie folk album of the same name.
'Son Called Moon' stars Irish performer Claire Burns, and explores themes of shame, vulnerability, sexuality, religion, truth, and wisdom. . . Following Moon, an adventurous boy who lies awake for hours with the mysterious, ever-present feminine Sun.
One day, a mysterious and potentially dangerous fruit appears – one which even Sun doesn't recognise. The pair's relationship begins to bruise, which in turn sends them on a journey through fear, isolation and longing.
'Son Called Moon' features an innovative, ethereal, original folk score – capable of transforming Chapel Off Chapel into a cosy living room and a vast galaxy with equal measure.

“'Son Called Moon' has been a mission to dig deep into my own experience, and to try and extract something from it that can speak to every human,” Ari says of the show in a video posted to Instagram. “When I started that process, I quickly saw that it was all about the questions we ask, and the feeling from which those questions arise.”
“It started as a very personal journey, but over the last six years, it's become this incredible community of artists and humans.”
