126-Year-Old Burton Street Tabernacle Transformed Into Eternity Playhouse

Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The heritage-listed Burton Street Tabernacle has become a state-of-the-art performance space after a four-year renovation project.

Now dubbed 'Eternity Playhouse' after a local artist who wrote the word 'Eternity' an estimated 5,000,000 times on the streets of Sydney between the 1930s and 1960s, the former Baptist church underwent extensive structural and cabling work, and is now fitted out and advanced digital PA system.

Playhouse-1Sydney's Darlinghurst Theatre Company was chosen by the City of Sydney to be the managing company of the newly established playhouse and staged their first full production at the venue in November 2013. Their performance of 'All My Sons' in the newly renovated space went on to be nominated at the Sydney Theatre Awards
