VOLUMES gallery in Brisbane launched acclaimed photographer Paul Giggle's latest photography project, 12 Natural Wonders, last night.
The exhibition paid homage to the raw beauty of Australia and our women in a pictorial study of Mother Nature and her glorious female form.
Working only with natural light and some of the country’s most beautiful models, Paul has captured the stillness and drama of our iconic coastline.
“I also see this series as an antidote to the way tasteless nudity is being consumed by our society in 2012. These women are not being sexy for men, they’re not titillating, and they’re not ashamed or shy of their bodies. They are gentle, soft and elegant,” Paul says.
Paul started his grand obsession with the female form as a young photographer, when he began collecting the famous Pirelli calendars, which have been synonymous with artistic nudes for 40 years.
“I’ve been shooting the female body for the fashion industry for the past 17 years and decided it was time to present what I see as the elemental quality of women,” Paul said. “There’s a freedom and a confidence about Australian woman that I wanted to capture and where better to juxtapose this than against the stark beauty of our natural wonders.”
The 2012 Natural Wonders calendar is the first in what Paul hopes will be a long term project that will take him to a different country each year to photograph beautiful woman against amazing landscapes and architecture. On his list are Brazil, France, Russia, Italy, Africa and Asia.
Nice work if you can get it, isn't it?
