Xanthe Jones – scenestr of the day

What do you do?
I should be better at answering this question from all the times I've been asked by uber drivers. I am an actor, singer, songwriter, cabaret and burlesque performer, writer, director, costumier and art-nude model. I've tried a little of everything in this buffet we call life, but at the moment my main focus is facilitating and directing an incredible production called Cluedo! The Interactive Game. Cluedo is on the 5th and 19th of May (as part of Anywhere Festival)and then it's straight into another crazy show, The Foxy Morons Present: I ♥ a Sunburnt C*ntry at Queensland Cabaret Festival in early June.

Why do you do it?
I ask myself the same question all the time. Why do I do this to myself? I find I need to keep creating, working and discovering to keep my life exciting. I figure I'd best try everything I can while I'm young and still have the energy to keep up with all the wild, amazing people I get to work with.

What do you love about the city you live in?
I'm a big fan of Brisbane. I love that this city has so much potential for artists and audiences as long as we get out there and create it for ourselves. The music, comedy, art and theatre scenes are exactly what people make it. We can have anything we want in Brisbane as long as we don't hold back.

Where did you go for your last holiday?
My last holiday was to Long Island in the Whitsundays. I drank a lot of pina coladas and went fishing in a kayak. Also. I went on a trip to Tasmania in March as a model for a workshop hosted by Cam Attree. It was technically for work and it was pretty tough modelling on the side of cliffs and in freezing cold water, but the locations were so beautiful that I consider it to be a pretty special trip.

What's your favourite item of clothing? Why?
My favourite item of clothing is a pale-green wrap dress from Tree of Life. I get a lot of compliments when I wear it because it's the same colour as my eyes or so they say.

What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
My favourite TV show as a kid was 'The Nanny'. It still is. Fran is a babe.

If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
I would go back in time to last week, so I'd have more time to do all my work for this show. But as a second choice, I think I'd go follow Sherlock Holmes around and crack some cases and look at the old-timey buildings and pat bulldogs.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us?
I would offer you a cuppa and Scotch fingers, then order Uber Eats. I'm going through a burger phase.

Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I am super critical of excellent, quality films. I'm always tearing down Oscar bait, but I absolutely cannot fault all the nostalgic faves. Give me some 'Jurassic Park', 'Harry Potter', Jackie Chan movies, Disney classics etc. I watched 'A Knight's Tale' the other day and I cry every single time.

How do you define success?
I think success is achieving the goals you set for yourself. I try to plan my projects at six monthly intervals rather than working toward a five-year plan. I find this lifts the pressure to be 'successful' and allows me to just do what makes me happy.

What's your spirit animal?
Definitely a feline like my black cat, Toothy, except nowhere near as sweet as he is. I'm introverted and need my alone time, but I do love it when people stroke my hair and put meals in front of me.
