Tony HuangWhat do you do?
I’m a Bartender at Soleil Pool Bar located in the cultural precinct of South Bank in Brisbane, QLD.

Why do you do it?
I do because I love it, and I particularly enjoy learning anything relating to cocktails; the history of the cocktail, unique products and how they’re used in different drinks, as well as different techniques of preparing drinks. I like bartending and making cocktails because it combines both physical and mental skill sets.

What do you love about the city you live in?
I love the sunny weather, the abundance of open public spaces and parks and the clean modern environment of Brisbane.

Where did you go for your last holiday?
Taiwan, an island off the east coast of China which is my home country and where my family is from.

What's your favourite item of clothing? Why?
I love the simplicity of a black long-sleeved collared dress shirt. It is very versatile and can be dressed up or down depending on the mood you’re in and the occasion you’re wearing it for.

What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
'The Simpsons'.

If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
I would go back to last Friday night to stop myself from drinking too much while in the beloved Fortitude Valley.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook for us?
I would make a classic Japanese chicken curry. It gives the illusion that it’s hard to make but it’s actually easy and a very substantial and delicious meal.

What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
I started a new life in Perth 5 years ago in what was one of the biggest life lessons for me. I moved there not knowing anyone and I learnt to totally rely on myself and take full responsibility for myself.

Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I always wanted to be a Shaolin monk when I was little and belong to the Shaolin Monastery in China which is one of the biggest and most renowned Buddhist Temples in the world. The Shaolin Monks are renowned for amazing feats of strength, flexibility, and pain-endurance and commonly known as Buddhist warriors.

Are you happy with your work/life balance?
For me, my job is part of my life and I am lucky that I love my job, and it is more to me than just that. I’m not too wild on my days off but I do enjoy keeping myself fit, and catching up with friends when I feel like it.

How do you define success?
Success is when you are happy with your life in the present, and happy for the future you have planned for yourself.

What's your spirit animal?
Jiff the Pomeranian!
