What do you do?
I am the Project and Marketing Manager for Choose Your Cruise
, an Adelaide-based company who provide music festivals at sea to the South Pacific each year. We offer a variety of cruises, specialising in country music with Cruisin’ Country, Australian Rock and Roll with Rock the Boat, and a cruise of the performing arts – with everything from Broadway, opera, cabaret and jazz – called BRAVO!Why do you do it?
I've grown up in a very musical household, with music and travel being two of my passions. Fortunately for me, in 2010 my family founded this business combining the two and I couldn't think of anything else that would be more suited for me! I also love seeing our passengers enjoy a holiday like no other where they can see artists they love and travel to beautiful destinations in a luxury setting. What do you love about the city you live in?
Adelaide has been my home my entire life. It's like Australia's underestimated city. Everything is so effortlessly accessible. In just 30 minutes you could be in the beautiful foothills visiting our world-renowned wine region; in Glenelg enjoying the beautiful beaches; or immersed in a beautiful city that has a thriving cultural, arts, and most importantly, live music scene. As much as I may travel for work, I love calling Adelaide home.Where did you go for your last holiday?
I am currently on board 2015's cruise season, stopped in Mare, a quaint island which is part of the Loyalty Islands – white-sand beaches as far as the eye can see! I can barely call this an office! But my last personal holiday destination was the United States. I love New York; no matter how many times you visit, there is always something new to see and different people you will meet. One belongs to New York in an instant, whether it is five minutes or five years, you can feel at home within the big city and get lost in the culture – and let's not forget the bagels! What's your favourite item of clothing?
I am a big lover of Australian-based clothing label Wheels and Dollbaby. They encompass the mix between beautifully constructed clothes with a rock & roll edge. I don't think a day goes by where I'm not wearing something of theirs, but I think my favourite piece is my signature, black-leather jacket. A staple every girl needs!
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
Growing up I loved Nickelodeon shows in the '90s. I love watching them for a hit of nostalgia even today! I'd say my favourite show was 'Are You Afraid Of The Dark'. It was a show where kids would gather around a campfire and would take in turns telling ghost stories to each other, which were then brought to life with each episode. I've always liked an element of horror and spooky things, even now I wish I was a member of the midnight society! If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
I would go back to see myself in high school. I'd tell myself that everything is going to work out just fine and no matter what people tried telling me, you can find a way to achieve your goals. If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us?
I would make you my signature dish, stuffed capsicums! I have a Macedonian heritage, and my grandmother made these beautiful peppers stuffed with rice, tomatoes, feta cheese and herbs, cooked to perfection and chargrilled. I must say, I think she'd be quite proud that I have been able to recreate a dish myself that my family appreciated so much when she was alive. I love seeing my friends and family enjoy it as much as I did as a child. What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
That throwing yourself into the deep end isn't as daunting as you may think. There comes a point where you either sink or swim, and if it means taking a risk to get what you want, then so be it. If you don't make it the first time, you can always pick yourself up and try again.Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
I am a 'Neighbours' fanatic! I watch that show every day at 6.30pm when I get home from work, and whenever I catch-up with friends for dinner, I'll almost always make plans for 7pm onwards! Who doesn't love a bit of Ramsay Street action? Are you happy with your work/ life balance?
Absolutely. As the saying goes, if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life! I am so grateful for the opportunities I have, and no matter how long some days may be leading up to our cruises, seeing our passengers smiling faces once they are on board makes it all worth it.How do you define success?
If you are doing something that makes the people around you happy, or something that brings others joy, to me, that is success. What's your spirit animal?
I'd have to say my spirit animal is the deer. In Native American belief, the deer is highly sensitive with strong intuition. By affinity with this animal, you have the power to deal with forthcoming challenges with grace. You master the art of being both determined and gentle in your approach. Two things I strive for in everyday life.
