What do you do?
I'm a stand-up comedian for the most part. I mainly gig around Brisbane (my favourite venue being the Sit Down Comedy Club in Paddington), but I'll travel to the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, and as far as the Northern Rivers just for some stage time. I love it.
Why do you do it?
It's therapeutic for me, even when I'm not sharing stories about my life. There's something about it that makes me feel alive (probably the adrenaline), and it also helps me to be in the moment & something I'm not that great at off stage.
What do you love about the city you live in?
I love Brisbane because it's not too big and it's not too small. It's just right (for the moment anyway). It's small enough so that vying for gigs is a bit easier than it is in Melbourne, but it's large enough so you don't perform to the same crowd every week.
Where did you go for your last holiday?
Um, my last holiday was about 10 years ago! I travelled around the UK with a friend for about a month, and then ended up living in London for almost a year following that. The first part felt like a holiday, the second part not so much.
What's your favourite item of clothing? Why?
My jeans I guess. I wear them everywhere. They've been with me to a lot of fantastic and very memorable gigs, and when I put them on it feels like I'm going to work; but in a good way.
What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?
It was definitely "Going Round the Twist". I probably couldn't tell you any favourite scenes or lines from it, but I loved it and I'll never forget its theme song "Have you ever, ever felt like this, have strange things happened, are you going round the twist. "
If you could travel back in time for a day, where would you go?
To see Margaret Cho when she came to Brisbane about a year ago.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us?
I'd google how to cook a roast properly and hope for the best. Of course, I'd be eating something different.
What's the best lesson you've ever learned?
That everything happens at the right time and for the right reasons.
Tell us one thing about yourself that nobody else knows...
Mariah Carey's song, 'Dreamlover', makes me happy. Sorry guys.
Are you happy with your work/ life balance?
I'd have to go with yes, but I'm not there yet. Comedy doesn't pay the bills, and there's always a bit of a juggling act happening. Basically, my social life is stand-up and stand-up is my social life.
How do you define success?
Lots of money! Just kidding & happiness obviously. To love what I do, to love myself, and to be with the one I love (when I meet her) is my idea of success.
What's your spirit animal?
I just did an online quiz which said the Owl, but I would've gone with the Magpie because one always finds me when I do something stupid. Like when I locked myself out of my apartment on my birthday & damn thing sat on the railing about two feet away from me and watched the entire ordeal.
