The inaugural Sunshine Coast music festal, Monsoon RockStock has been cancelled.
The event was to be staged Saturday 4 March at Lake Kawana Community Centre. Regurgitator, King Parrot and Frenzal Rhomb were to headline.
Event organiser Jacob Stewart released the following statement:
To all, we regret to announce that Monsoon RockStock 2017 cannot go ahead this debut year. It is unfortunately due to increasing costs and subsequent pressures on this inaugural event that we have come to this decision as we approach D-Day.
As we are debut and independent were out to engage the local scene, the support from various entities has not come through. This event was placed into a ‘high risk’ bracket with policies demanding inflating expenses, proving difficult to overcome with a pre-planned, outlaid budget of a high figure.
We have done everything in our power to attempt to salvage the day, including moving the venue, postponing the date or reducing the time frames and line-up but it’s just not possible.
We felt that we didn't want to jeopardise any of the bands involvement and force you guys to purchase a ticket in light of a tarnished brand and potential disappointment.
To all locals & acts, your assistance with promotion and the generation of interest was so great, we thought people showed real interest to see what this event could do. Unfortunately, ticket sales were very slow out of the gates and the break-even drove higher, so the risk to run this event was too high and at a loss.
We'd like to thank you all for your interest and support thus far, we are planning some local shows in an attempt for bands to still celebrate the local scene and music.
All ticket holders are entitled for a refund from Lake Kawana Community Centre. All ticket holders will be contacted by the Box Office to receive a full refund for their purchase.
