What followed was weeks of increasing tension and excitement, as festival fans impatiently awaited the announcement of musicians to grace the summer stage.
Despite Gambino raising the bar to arguably insurmountable levels, on 23 August Falls delivered a star-studded line-up so impressive, it may just exceed all expectations.
London Grammar, Broods, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Jamie T, Grouplove and Aluna George are among the international acts jetting to perform Down Under, alongside a stacked Australian contingent including Violent Soho, Matt Corby, Alison Wonderland, The Rubens, Ball Park Music, The Jezabels, Tkay Maidza, Illy, DMA's and The Avalanches.
The event will migrate to four unique corners of Australia – Lorne (VIC), Marion Bay (TAS), Byron Bay (NSW), and Fremantle (WA) for the first time in Falls Festival history. With venues ranging from rolling green amphitheatres to inner city streets and abandoned buildings, each space will be transformed into an immersive carousel of music, dance, light and art.
Besides boasting an all-rounder roster of artists sure to tickle the fancy of all musical preferences, the 24th annual Falls Music & Arts Festival offers modern camping facilities, visual arts performances, pop-up bars and beer gardens, food trucks and restaurants, and interactive games and activities.
