With swirling, synth-enhanced hushed vocals, Melbourne act Kids At Midnight's brand of indie synth-pop takes its cues from the likes of Kate Bush and Stevie Nicks.
The project of Jane Elizabeth Hanley, Kids At Midnight has already enjoyed success with 2 million Spotify streams to date. Her newest single is titled 'By Your Side' and is the first track lifted from her forthcoming debut album due in 2019.
"I've spent a long time toiling on producing the sound that I want," Jane says. "It's been years trying to get there. I think I'm finally at the place that I can faithfully reproduce the sound I hear in my head.
"It's really exciting for me to know that what I'm releasing to the world is what I wanted the song to sound like.
"'By Your Side' is a very special song to me; it's the first single from my debut album, and I've written, recorded, engineered, produced and mixed it myself. So it's all Kids At Midnight, it's really my heart out there for everyone."
Today, scenestr is excited to be able to premiere the accompanying video clip for 'By Your Side'. Enjoy.
"We made the video to 'By Your Side' basically so I could have my own little 'Total Eclipse Of The Heart' moment," Jane adds.
"The song is lyrically very open, just honest in saying you've finally found that someone, after a life time of being the girl that doesn't get the guy, and it feels bloody whimsical! It feels like slo-mo, it feels like wind machines.
"So we wanted to really be inside the unashamedness of it and be totally '80s about it, because that's my heart and that's the heart of the song and it's really where I would spend all my dreamy moments if I could. Just throwing shapes to the soundtrack of my life in a misty, romantically lit slow-mo."
