Melbourne soul empress Kattimoni follows up the recent release of her empowering new single, 'Ain't Gonna Give Up', with an accompanying video clip that sees her rise from the ashes like a phoenix.
Raised on a sonic sustenance of vintage soul, jazz, reggae and blues, Kattimoni's sound embodies the essence of old-school soul with deep-funk grooves.
"The film clip draws inspiration from the ancient mythological archetype of the phoenix arising from the ashes and is deeply inspired by the resilient capacity of nature to always regenerate itself," Kattimoni says.
"This song started out as an affirmation to myself, after hitting rock bottom and making the decision to arise and rebuild my life out of a destructive cycle of abuse.
"My mother was also battling breast cancer at this time and I was so inspired by her positive mindset and determination to heal herself, each day at a time. Just as the seeds that sprout new life after the fire has desecrated the land, we to have the potential to renew and recreate ourselves."
scenestr is proud to premiere the 'Ain't Gonna Give Up' video clip today.
A yogini, arts therapist and community leader, Kattimoni embodies the practice of creativity as a catalyst for self-creation and empowerment. "The music video features members of my local community in Footscray.
"While our struggles can sometimes feel so intensely private and personal, sharing my voice through music and art has taught me that our experiences are always collective and connected.
"We have all experienced times in our lives when we've felt powerless, overwhelmed and just wanted to give up. I want to create music that is affirmative and empowering for people to know that whatever situation or circumstance you are struggling through right now, you have the power to rise above it. Do not give up hope."
