Hosted by A.B. Original, Golden Era Records will be staging some of Australia’s best in the hip hop business at the label’s very own showcase during Umbrella: Winter City Sounds in Adelaide.

This time around Golden Era, the Adelaide record label started by hip hop stalwarts Hilltop Hoods, is teaming with Bad Apples Records, started by Australian rapper Briggs, for a one-off ‘Golden Eras x Bad Apples’ hip hop showcase.

Hosted by the politically-charged hip hop duo A.B. Original, the event will feature performances from K21, Purpose and Birdz as well as some surprise guests and DJ sets.

Each performing a 20-minute snippet, the coming together of these three Adelaide artists is sure to be a unique party says Adrian Gonzalez, better known as K21. “Golden Era x Bad Apples hasn’t happened in a full showcase yet, so it’s a one of a kind line-up… It’s pretty much a cross-collaboration to work with artists that we love from around Australia.”

The show will not only be a fantastic opportunity for these rappers to share some of their latest music, but they’ll be on show for some of the best in the Australian music business.

Held at Rocket Bar following the Australian Independent Record (AIR) Awards ceremony, the showcase will be a unique and intimate performance for industry to get a taste of what these two record labels have been cooking up. “We’ve all been hibernating for quite some time,” Adrian explains.

“So now we’re happy to bring forward our music and share it; show everybody what we’re about as artists.”

Adelaide’s talent will be on show and as Adrian sees it, the performance will really be a chance to showcase what Adelaide musically has to offer. “The Adelaide scene is such a tight-knit community and people that make music all stick together. We’re always out supporting the Australian music scene and the Adelaide music scene in particular.

“I’ve hung out with everybody on the line-up before and they’re all really great people and make great music, so coming together like this will be such an awesome opportunity.

“Adelaide is the kind of city where no matter what you do, people will embrace it… We all push each other in a very friendly way and a lot of us hang out often and show each other what we’ve been working on.”

Golden Era x Bad Apples Records Showcase - one of the AIR Awards after parties – takes place at Rocket Bar (Adelaide) 27 July.
