After two weeks seeing the best live, local music South Australia has to offer, wind down with the official Umbrella: Winter City Sounds closing event: The Sanctuary Festival.

“The Sanctuary Festival is a music, yoga and good vibes festival,” Music SA Marketing Manager Skye Lockwood says.

“The theme is fire and air with a tribal element to it as well. We’ve got African soul Damushi Ensemble, James Byrne on didgeridoo and the mysterious beats of Abbey Howlett.”

Held on the final evening of Umbrella, The Sanctuary Festival is the perfect way to relax and reflect, with live music, yoga sessions and lots of delicious food and drink to enjoy, all from the comfort of your own personal haven. “We’ve also got two sessions of yoga and because the festival is focussed around fire and energy so it’s going to be quite upbeat,” Skye says.

“There are also lots of other saucy, secret things that will happen when people arrive. So they’ll get little surprises, which they won’t know about until they get there."

The inaugural Sanctuary Festival was initially held earlier this year in March as part of Adelaide Fringe Festival and became a sell-out success. Skye explains the festival is more than just a nice way to unwind, it also taps into the prevalent issue of mental health in the entertainment industry. “The festival is also about wellness,” she says.

“There will be lots of different stalls delicious food trucks and a chill out lounge for those who want to take some time out and have a drink at the bar.”

After a fortnight of live bands, parties and everything else Umbrella has to offer, Skye thinks The Sanctuary Festival will be just what the doctor ordered. “Everyone’s been going to live events and music for two weeks and then they can spend their very last evening of Umbrella chilling out at The Sanctuary Festival, doing a bit of yoga, dancing to some awesome tribal beats, eating delicious food and enjoying everything that’s going on around them in their sanctuary.”

The Sanctuary Festival takes place at Robinson Heritage Warehouse (15 Halifax St, Adelaide) 30 July.
