He's been described as razor-sharp yet soft and cuddly.
American comedian Ron Funches brings his live show to Australia for the first time ever, with experience on 'The Conan O'Brien Show' and 'The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon' up his sleeve and a proclivity for gaming.
He'll provide incisive observations on everything from casual racism to raising a son with autism. Here, he provides observations in response to some questions before his show.
First of all, this is your Australian debut! What are you most looking forward to about visiting Australia? I’m looking forward to meeting new people and enjoying some giant seafood and watching television with accents I don’t normally hear.
Have you made any observations about our country from afar that you’ve found particularly interesting? All I know about Australia is that you don’t eat s’mores and a surprising number of you live in Whistler, Canada.
You pursued comedy in your early 20s. What made you head down that path? I was not skilled in any other capacity.
And if you weren’t doing this for a career, what do you think you’d be up to right now? The closest I’d be to Australia if I didn’t do comedy is watching 'Kangaroo Jack' for a fourth time.
Your 2014 TV special was ranked among the best of 2014. How did that feel?! Great. I agreed with people who felt this way.
You regularly perform on shows like ‘Conan’ and ‘The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon’. Do you have any specific memories from doing those shows that particularly stand out to you? Just hearing Conan laugh from the side of the stage while I was telling jokes and feeling like I was truly funny.
You’re an avid video gamer. Do you have one particular game that you always go back to? What’s your favourite right now? I always enjoy 'Mario 3' and right now I love 'Apex Legends' and 'Resident Evil 2'.
You’ve brought things from your real life into your comedy, such as your son. Do you think there’s an ideal way of making light of certain very real subjects such as this, and if so, what is it? Be honest and come from a place of love.
What’s next for Ron Funches? Stand-up, acting, writing, laughing with my friends, travelling, being a positive force.
